Rekindle Love with a Baecation

Motherhood is accompanied by many challenges. Being a mom is a wonderful rewarding experience, however it can pose a significant barrier in romantic relationships. From the neverending chores, to making dinner, to running errands, we, mamas often neglect ourselves and can sometimes neglect our partners. Life’s day-to-day activities can be taxing and by the time the littles go down for bed, all that we have left to give is given to our linens. Sometimes after working and momming all day, we are too  tired to engage in intimate activities with our significant others. Date nights can be few and far between due to scheduling issues or the inability to find quality child care.  If we are honest about it, our children can be “blockers” themselves. Refusing to go to sleep or making their way to your bed in the middle of the night, children have a way of killing the mood. Do any of the scenarios sound familiar? Oftentimes our good intentions are derailed by motherhood.  It is time to rekindle the passion and fire in your relationship. Stop letting your relationship take a back seat to your children. Balance is key. One way to keep the flame going is by taking a “baecation”.  A "baecation" is vacation or getaway that a couple takes together to spend quality time, relax, and strengthen their relationship. Not only is traveling a great way to help you reset as an individual, but it can also be a great way for you to reignite things in your relationship. When you decided to take the trip, here are a few ways to make your baecation memorable:

"F" Them Kids

Okay, okay not really. We love our children, but remember a baecation is all about spending quality time with your significant other. Leave the children with someone you trust and put the phone on do not disturb. Leave detailed instructions for the sitter to prevent excessive communication.  Ask the caregiver to help you minimize distractions by scheduling a daily call with the children. All other contact outside of the scheduled call is unnecessary, unless there is an emergency. Minimizing contact with the kids will help you and your bae prioritize each other. You don’t want to regret spending your baecation time worrying about your children.  So, do it and don’t feel guilty about it. You will be back with them in a few days and things will be back to normal in no time.

Choose a Romantic Destination & Romanticize it!

Opt for a location that has a romantic ambiance, such as a beach resort, a charming city with scenic views, or a cozy mountain retreat. Over do it on the romance. Imagine your favorite romance movie or novel, now multiply that energy by ten for your baecation.  Enjoy romantic dinners together. Whether it's at a local restaurant or a private candlelit dinner on the beach, savoring delicious meals in a romantic setting can enhance your connection. If you're in a location with clear skies, spend an evening stargazing. It's a simple yet romantic activity that allows for quiet moments together. Wine and chocolate covered strawberries scream romance. Rose petals on the bed, candles, and bubble baths are great ways to bring the romance too. Whatever you choose to do, romance is a must.

Disconnect from Technology and Be Present

Take a break from emails, social media, and other digital distractions. Use this time to focus on each other and enjoy the moment.Focus on being present and fully engaged with your partner. Put away distractions and enjoy the time together without worrying about work or other stresses. Lock in to your significant other. Pretend as though you two are the only people on earth. Use the time to satisfy each other in every way possible. Minimizing distractions will help you focus on the purpose of the trip.

Create Memories

Consider activities that you both enjoy. Whether it's exploring a new city, hiking, trying new restaurants, or simply lounging on the beach, plan activities that will create special memories.Use your baecation as an opportunity to try new things together. Whether it's a water sport, a cooking class, or exploring local attractions, stepping out of your comfort zones can be fun and adventurous. Baecations don’t occur often, especially when you have small children. Creating memorable experiences is essential and can be used as fuel and motivation when you return to your everyday life. Remembering the love and excitement you shared on your trip can inspire you to engage in future trips.

Set Goals and Create Actionable Steps

Take advantage of the relaxed atmosphere to discuss your future, dreams, and goals as a couple. This can strengthen your bond and help you both understand each other's aspirations. Discuss your individual short term and long term goals. Share your individual aspirations. Then discuss short and long term goals for your family. Discuss ways to accomplish your goals. Having an in depth conversation around your goals can cultivate a shared vision for your household.  If you are feeling ambitious, plan actionable steps and a timeline for completing those steps. The hustle and bustle of everyday life can prevent communication around goals. Using some of your baecation time to plan goals can help to foster a shared sense of purpose and strengthen your entire family unit.

Connect Mentally and Spiritually

Parenting rarely provides quiet time for couples to deeply connect. A baecation can allow space for you and your bae to reconnect mentally and spiritually. Engage activities that usher in healing and positive vibes. Try couples yoga. Pray and meditate together. Engaging in mindfulness activities can bring a heightened awareness of each other’s emotional and spiritual state, provide room to constructively resolve conflicts, deepen gratitude for each other’s differences, and develop patience toward each other. Praying and meditating can help you to maintain a harmonious and fulfilling relationship.

Remember that the key to a successful baecation is to tailor it to your preferences as a couple. Whether you prefer adventure, relaxation, or a combination of both, the goal is to create a memorable and enjoyable experience that strengthens your connection.
